How Do I Tell If Computers Are On The Same Network?
From Computer Networking Forum:How do I tell if computers are on the same network? Hi, I have just begun a networking course, so its all new to me! here is a hypothetical example I have been given but don't know how to answer! Computer 1 ip address: 192.168.12.113 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.12.1 Computer 2 ip address:192.168.12.205 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default dateway: 192.168.12.1 Computer 3 ip address: 192.168.112.97 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.12.1 Using this information I have to answer if all these computers are on the same network and explain my answer. It then goes on to ask, if something is wrong, what is likely to be the problem? Please help, thanks in advance Matt!
Answer: Computers 1 and 2 are on the same network, computer 3 is on a different network. This is basically a sub netting question. Look carefully at the sub net numbers. You have 192.168.12 for computers 1 and 2, but 192.168.112 for computer 3. The sub net mask is 255.255.255.0 for all 3, and the default gateway is 192.168.12.1 for all 3. Computer 3 is configured. It cannot have a 24-bit sub net mask (255.255.255.0) and have a default gateway on a different sub net. The result is that computers 1 and 2 will be able to communicate, but computer 3 is cut off. If the sub net of computer 3 is changed from 112 to 12, you're good to go.
Can These Computers Communicate To Each Other?
From Computer Networking Forum:Can these computers communicate to each other? Can these computers communicate with each other with IPA addresses of 192.168.12.113, 192.168.12.205 192.168.112.97. All with sub net masks of 255.255.255.0 and all with a default gateway of 192.168.12.1?
Answer: The first two can talk to each other. There isn't enough information to say whether the last can talk to the others or not. You would need at least one more gateway in the 192.168.112.x network that is able to reach 192.168.12.x either directly or indirectly. The routing table of 192.168.112.97 would then need to know about this second gateway: that is not incompatible with a default gateway of 192.168.12.1, but for an end device rather than a router it would be a slightly unusual configuration.
Which Of The Following IPA Addresses Are Rout able On The Internet?
From Security Forum:Which of the following IPA addresses ARE rout able on the Internet? choose 1: a. 127.0.0.1 b. 10.0.0.0 c. 192.168.12.34 d. none of these thanks :)
Answer: None They are all Private numbers. See below.
If I Wanted My Other Departments To Be In Their Own Network?
From Computer Networking Forum:If I wanted my other departments to be in their own network? lets say I purchased a IPA id dress of 192.168.12.1 (I know I cant, But just go with it) If I had 10 departments (example marketing, Sales etc) that needed their own network with 20 hosts in each department, If they all wanted their own network within this network, what IPA address could I give them with what sub net masks that would work for this?
Answer: You can't do that with a single class C network block. The closest you can get is 8 networks of 30 hosts each (mask 255.255.255.224) or 16 networks of 14 hosts each (mask 255.255.255.240).
How To Retrieve My File With Other Network That Shares My Pc?
From Computer Networking Forum:how to retrieve my file with other network that shares my pc? I have 3 pc's in my office, the main one,the A & A. The original file is at the main one,it used to be shared in my A PC but I don't know why I cannot access it since the other day.Can you tell me the procedure as to what steps do I need to do to retrieve it again to my A PC.
Answer: If you are not able to share files with your other PCs, which is what I assume the fault is from your limited information, the files are not set up for sharing among PCs. Open Windows Explorer, highlight the directories you wish to share, right click, select sharing from the pop up and follow the prompts to enable sharing. And check your IPA settings as well make sure your network on the same IPA like A 192.168.12.10 A 192.168.12.11 A 192.168.12.12 for more info
Network Design Question?
From Computer Networking Forum:Network Design Question? Picture this... I have 3 network closets that have patch panels for their respective areas. Within each of these closets I have 4 switches that are stacked (providing redundancy), and then daisy chained via a fiber cable to each of the other closets providing redundancy among the closets. On one of the switches I connected a router as a gateway to the Internet. Currently there is one network (192.168.12.x/24) I am planning to implement 3 different IPA networks. Now if I have 3 sub nets (192.168.1.x/24, 192.168.2.x/24, 192.168.3.x/24), can I connect the clients anywhere onto these switches? Or do I have to have separate the switches for each IPA network and connect each client to their respective switch? I know that my clients wont be able to talk to other clients on a different sub net. However, I was thinking that if I added 3 Ethernet cards to my router each with a IPA serving as a gateway for each network, then I believe all the clients will be able to communicate.
Answer: The best way to do this is 1. Your router needs to be able support Trunking (Dot1q preferred)). Configure sub interfaces on your Ethernet and connect to a switch trunk port 2. Your switches need to support clans Make sure each link connecting the switches are trunk ports so clan information is past through each switch
Need Help Designing A Network?
From Computer Networking Forum:Need help designing a network? lets say I purchased a IPA id dress of 192.168.12.1 (I know I cant, But just go with it) If I had 10 departments (example marketing, Sales etc) that needed their own network with 20 hosts in each department, If they all wanted their own network within this network, what IPA address could I give them with what sub net masks that would work for this? I know that it is impossible to sub net this kind of class c network, but what kind of IPA address would I use on this?
Answer: it's very possible to use RFC 1918 space. anyway 10 departments w/ 20 PCs +room to grow. The smallest sub net you can use is a /27 (32 hosts) 255.255.255.224 since the next sub net down (/28) only allows for a 16 hosts. anyway knowing that, then you'd need two /24s, actually you'd want two /24's that are contiguous or more specifically a /23 (512 available IPA addresses) (255.255.254.0 sub net mask). You will probably have to get IP's from an upstream provider, it's doubtful ARIN would give you a /23 based upon what you have described, so you would end up getting a /23 from whomever you use as your upstream provider. (Level3, AT&T, some local network service provider etc..) anyway yes, you can break up a /23 into many /27s for the random departments.. You would anchor the /23 sub net on your router and either announce it via a routing protocol, OR have your upstream provider static route the /23 to your router. Internally you would either run multiple physical Fast/Gig Ethernet interfaces or you would have many virtual interfaces on your router to facilitate the internal interfaces. (for something this simple you're going to be using a simple router, so in this case probably multiple virtual interfaces on your internal Ethernet Interface. ). The concept of "Class" is no longer really valid for current day IPA schemes. This sounds like some homework assignment since you're talking Glassful IPA addressing so make sure you tell your teacher that I did your homework for you. Anyway speaking "classful" you can use IPA space from any range, but you're going to be using two contiguous /24 (class C) addresses to form a classless /23 etc. Make sure your teacher actually teaches you CI DR (or look at changing schools).

Can Someone Hack Your IPA Address?
From Other - Computers Forum:Can someone hack your IPA address? So can someone hack your IPA address, I have Norton Security Suite and it works well I have not had a virus in a whole 2 years, But some guy on you tube says he is going to hack my you tube account and my IPA address and he told me that this was my IPA :192.168.12.3: But I checked my IPA and it was : 68.59.39.134: So someone please post back soon
Answer: He is an idiot, actually. 192.168.x.x is an "internal" email address, reserved for use by local networks. That means it can't possibly be used as a hack unless he's already inside your local network. Anyone who actually has a chance of hacking you would know that number is useless. Hacking your you tube account, that's another story. That might be possible, but it depends how good your password is.
Identify Network Address?
From Computer Networking Forum:Identify network address? I got an answer and misunderstand why this IPA address 192.168.12.64 /26 is the network address ?
