What Are The Chances Of The 2012 Predictions Actually Coming True?
From Mythology & Folklore Forum:What are the chances of the 2012 predictions actually coming true? First off, I will say that I don't believe that 2012 will be any different of a year than any other one. I am asking about how people will react when the year finally comes around. With all of the media that this so called "prophecy" has gotten, don't you think that people will go to great lengths to try and stop it, since they "know" that it will happen? Or, on the other hand, will people go to great lengths to make something happen in an attempt to fulfill the predictions?
Answer: Almost none. One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world. These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies. Ever since the YAK and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else. "But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33) Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready. The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns. The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren. Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time. For more information, about what Catholics believe about the end of the world, see: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0993.asp Here is also what NASA thinks about the 2012 End of the World scenario: http://pwg.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/StarFAQ18.htm#q306 With love in Christ.

From Politics Forum:How important do you consider the 2012 presidential election? Would you consider the 2012 election more important than 2008 Why? Why not? Has there been a more important election year for you? When?
Answer: 1980 was a bell weather year, so was 2000. '92 sucked the big one. but if we don't take the WHO in 2012 we may just lose our country. look how far to the left "The One" has taken us in about 3 years!
What Are The Chances Of Something Happening In 2012 That Was Predicted?
From Mythology & Folklore Forum:What are the chances of something happening in 2012 that was predicted? Answer: The Mayans never actually predicted the end of the world. The only thing stemming from this is the fact the calendar ends come December 12, 2012. The one thing the Mayans say is that by 2012 If we continue on this negative path of hate, an eye for an eye, destruction of nature, of fear and egoism, we will enter straight into the time of destruction and chaos, and we will disappear as the dominant race of this planet. If we become conscious and realize that we all form part of a great organism, and that we should respect one another and be grateful to our planet, then we will move directly into positive growth, our Golden Age. they seem to believe we're in for a great state of enlightenment and a new way of life if we choose the right path. those that do not choose the right path will face the consequences. however, for 2012 the Mayans also predict: we will have gone beyond technology as we know it. (This happens on a daily basis since forever though. We've gone beyond technology as THEY knew it, beyond technology as our grandparents knew it, or kids will have technology that goes beyond what WE know it. It's how it works.) we will have gone beyond time and money. (By 2012? Really? with the economic turmoil our nation is in, time is extremely important and money is on our minds every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year. Even if ABM is able to fix things with a wave of his magic wand, I don't see us "Going beyond time and money" by 2012.) we will have entered the fifth dimension after passing through the fourth dimension (Come ON! This one gets me. We can't even make it through the third dimension. we're suppose to be entering the fifth dimension in less than 3 years? I don't see that happening except in theory.) My theory is this. People were freaking out about YAK. when computers tried turning to 2000, it wouldn't register and missiles would be launched unwittingly setting off world war three, Yellowstone would erupt destroying the world, a meteor would hit the earth, aliens would come to abduct our world leaders leaving us in chaos. phones and computers would go down, no one would be able to contact their loved ones. When 2000 came and went, there was a NEW theory... 2000 wasn't the ACTUAL beginning of the new millennium because the millennium started with year 1 a.d., so the actual YAK would happen on 2001. The first millennium was 1001 a.d. and the second is 2001 a.d. So the doomsday prophesies came out again. shortly after 2001 came and went, they focused on the year of damnation... 6.6.06. The year of the mark of the demon. the Antichrist would be re-born and life as we know it would be coming to an end. When that came and went with little more than a bad remake of "the Omen", the "I REALLY want the world the END" Sayers focused on 7.7.07. I'm not sure why... it was supposedly bad luck to someone for some reason... I don't know. Now the main focus is on 12.21.12. it's like people really really really really really want the world to end. It's kind of sad so many people are praying for the destruction of our planet. My grandma on my dad's side was like that. She said the world was going to end 1992, and that the proof was in the fact that women were starting to get tattooed (The mark of the devil). She died 1991. We're still here, too bad she wasn't here to see it. 2012 I don't think will be any different from any other year, and whatever does happen, is more survivable now than it would have been in the past. not to mention for the biblical scholars that are constantly talking about "the bible code" forget one thing... when asked, Jesus told his disciples when asked about when he'd return, "the end will come like a thief in the night. no one knows the hour nor day, not the angels in heaven, nor the son. only the father knows of it's coming." in fact, this is mentioned on more than one occasion.'' so my position is that 2012 will be just like any other year, and not long after the ST, we'll be in 2013. and then we can listen to the 2020 prophecies for the end of the world. do I worry about these "predictions?" its human to freak out when there are experts in freaking people out trying to freak you out. but come what may... live your life to the best of your ability so you can look back and say you truly have no regrets and that you were a good person.
What Exactly Causes The Global Cataclysm In The Movie 2012?
From Politics Forum:What exactly causes the global cataclysm in the movie 2012? In the movie 2012, the whole world just falls apart basically, but how? What exactly is happening in the world in this movie that causes the global cataclysm?
Answer: I'm not sure that the movie states this, but it likely does. Some are of the belief that in 2012 the earth will shift magnetic polarity (the poles will reverse, and a compass will point south instead of north, as it does currently). This shift is what is responsible for the calamity in the movie. Edit: You were asking about the 'physical' cause, weren't you? Others are citing the Mayan calendar, etc. The Mayan calendar was/is incredibly accurate given what was known at the time of its creation. It stops abruptly on Dec. 21 (some claim the 12th), 2012. There are also those who contend that all of the world events currently taking place are lining up for the confirmation of the revelation in the bible. Some Muslims also believe that things are currently staged for the return of the Twelfth Imam. But from a physical standpoint, the reversing magnetism of the poles would result in all of the tectonic plates shifting. If the tectonic plates shift dramatically, it would cause a lot of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and the like. These plates interact now, causing these events.
Can Somebody Please Tell Me Some Ways To Disprove The Nostradamus 2012 Doomsday Theory?
From Astronomy & Space Forum:Can somebody please tell me some ways to disprove the Nostradamus 2012 doomsday theory? Or any of the 2012 theories. I know its stupid but I just watched a TV show about it and it freaked me out.
Answer: The 2012 date is Mayan. Even though I don't put much stock into Prophecy of doomsday the Mayans Calender does match dates for world Catastrophes in history. The Aztec Calendar And The Eve Of Destruction It was carved during the reign of the Th Aztec monarch in 1479. The stone was dedicated as in many cultures to its principal god - the sun. The giant disk has mythological and astronomical significance. It weighs about 25 tons,is 12 feet across, and it is 3 feet thick. The Mexicans, as most other Meso-Americans, believed in the periodic destruction and re-creation of the world. The "Calendar Stone" as it is known rests in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, Mexico and depicts in its central panel the date 4 Olin, on which they anticipated that the current world as we know it would be destroyed by earthquake, and within it the dates of previous holocausts. The Aztecs used this as a religious calendar. Priests used the calendar to determine luck days for such activities as sowing crops, building houses, sacrificial ceremony, and going to war. We can only wonder whether the wise priests standing straight up looking to the sky perceived some signal from the night sky of their civilization's imminent doom. An examination of the calendar shows that the Aztecs believed that their world was destroyed and then recreated four times. Perhaps they accepted the astonishment of their culture as part of a natural cycle? Could they have believed that the invasion of Cortes was their sign that it was time to end another great cycle in order to start all over again? The clues might be found in the calendar itself. In the lower right corner of the outer circle of the sun god is the "Atonatium" (Sun Of Water), it means The Fourth Epoch, at the end of which everything perished because of terrific storms and torrential rains that covered the earth. The precession of the equinoxes, also known as the Platonic Year, is caused by the slow wobbling of the earth's polar axis. Right now this axis roughly points to Polaris, the "Pole Star," but this changes slowly over long periods of time. The earth's wobble causes the position of earth's axis to slowly precess against the background of stars. It continues to move across time. At present, The winter solstice position is in the constellation of Sagittarius. But 2000 years ago it was in Capricorn. Since then, it has precessed backward almost one full sign about every 2,000 years. The Aztecs it seems did know their stuff because as it turns out on the winter solstice in the year 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way galaxy for the first time in about 26,000 years. This means that whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted or enhanced on On December 21, 2012 at 11:11 p.m., the date when the Calendar's "Long Count" will mark the end of a 5,126-year era, and perhaps the end of another long cycle of birth and destruction. God Bless!
How Should I Prepare For 2012, What Things Should I Have To Protect Me?
From Religion & Spirituality Forum:How should I prepare for 2012, what things should I have to protect me? Since 2012 is on it's way, and nobody cares, I think it's time for me to start preparing for any chaos. I would like serious answers please. If you are a science expert, I would like your expertise too. Thanks.
Answer: Agreed, 2012 is on its way, but the Apocalypse claims are false. There are no scientists saying that anything unusual is going to happen. Have you noticed that those who say "scientists are saying this" have never yet come up with one scientist who actually is saying it. The Mayan calendar doesn't end. One cycle ends and a new one begins. They didn't make any predictions associated with it. Nostradamus never mentioned 2012. The Bible doesn't mention 2012. There is no actual planetary alignment, only some of the planets appear to be aligned in our view of the sky. We are not headed for a photon belt in the Pleaders. We are moving further away from the Pleaders and there is no photon belt. Also, photons are merely units of light. There is no comet or asteroid headed for Earth in 2012. There is no planet Nebr. That is simply the name the Sumerians used for Jupiter. The poles are not going to reverse in 2012. A polar reversal takes hundreds to thousands of years to happen. The Solar cycle reaches its peak every 11 years. It only affects electronics and communications. The US GS does not believe that Yellowstone will erupt any time in the near future. In short, there is nothing to prepare for because all these claims are being made only by people with no scientific background who are selling books, advertising on their doomsday programs, "2012 survival kits", and space in nonexistent shelters.

From Elections Forum:Who is the best republican running for 2012 that wants to legalize weed? Who is the best republican running for 2012 that wants to legalize weed? And what are the odds of ABM getting re-elected?
Answer: The best republican running for 2012 that wants to legalize weed is Ron Paul I'd say the odds of ABM getting re-elected is 40% Why? Paul vs ABM = Paul win Gingrich vs ABM = Gingrich win Romney vs ABM = Coin flip Santorum vs ABM = ABM win There are 5 possibilities and 2 of them are won by ABM, thus 40% However, this does not take all factors into account, it is just a simple example of "What If"
