What Is The Difference Between 7 Layer Dip And Tex Mex Dip?

From Cooking & Recipes Forum:

What is the difference between 7 layer dip and Tex Mex dip? A friend swears that her family's "tex mex" dip is different than 7 layer dip, despite having the same ingredients and seven layers. Is there truly a difference?

Answer: I've traced the origins of this dip back to San Antonio circa 1946 and in fact there is a distinct difference between the 7 Layer Dip and the Tex Mex dip that is rooted in a family feud between the Gomez family and the Fallon family - both prominent families in SA. The Fallon family drew claim to a secret ingredient that threw the 7 Layer Dip category of the Gomez family into a tailspin. The Tex Mex dip was born and the rest is history. To know the difference between the two is to taste it. It can't be put into words.

Question About 7 Layer Dip? Is The Taco Seasoning Supposed To Mixed With The Sour Cream Or The Re fried Beans?

From Cooking & Recipes Forum:

Question about 7 Layer Dip? Is the taco seasoning supposed to mixed with the sour cream or the re fried beans? I've found recipes where the seasoning is either mixed in with the sour cream or mixed in with the re fried beans or bother? Also, could you please list for me the 7 usual ingredients used in a classic 7 Layer Dip and the order by which they should be spread into the dish?

Answer: This is only one variation. I chose it because it explains to put the taco seasoning in with the beans. There are no set recipes when it comes to this dip. I add black olives, diced tomato's etc.... Fantastic Seven Layer Dip 1 (16 ounce) can re fried beans 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package regular taco seasoning mix 8 ounces sour cream (low-fat is okay) 8 ounces prepared guacamole (store-bought or home-made) 1 cup shredded four-cheese Mexican blend cheese or cheddar cheese (is fine) 1 cup mild salsa 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies 1/3 cup sliced green onions 16 ounces tortilla chips In a small bowl, combine beans and the taco seasoning mix. Spread the bean/taco mix evenly over the bottom of an 8-inch square serving dish. Layer with the sour cream, then the guacamole, then the shredded cheese, then the salsa, then the Chile's and last, the green onions. Serve with lots of tortilla chips-- delicious!

What Foods Did You Have At Your Baby Shower?

From Pregnancy Forum:

What foods did you have at your baby shower? Hey ladies! Just wondering what types of foods you had at your shower or showers you've attended! My shower is in 2 weeks and the menu is going to be just finger foods. Mini chicken sliders: regular, buffalo, and BBQ - your choice! Chips and dip ( cheese dip and a 7 layer dip which includes beans, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese and something else. I'm forgetting but sounds yummy! Fruit tray Meatballs on toothpicks Chopped salad & cupcakes :) Drinks will include water, sodas, and homemade strawberry lemonade!

Answer: At mine we just did fruit and veggie trays, cake, nuts, and mints. We also had the meatballs and cocktail wieners. the drinks were water, lemonade, and tea. It all depends I think on what you want (or crave). The main thing is to make sure you are not going to be serving anything you have an aversion to (of course!), as well as what you are craving. After all, this is for you and baby. Enjoy your shower, the rest of your pregnancy, and delivery. Congrats on your growing family!
