What Is The Different Between British Accent And Aussie Accent?
From Languages Forum:what is the different between British accent and Aussie accent? I listened to BBC news and 7 news and I think both of these accents are same, I just surfed about it, and I found that Aussie accent derived from cockney accent from UK..I'm new in this kind of thing, can someone explain me more details what is the different between two of these accent?
Answer: An Australian tourist in Cairo is knocked down by a car and taken to hospital. The doctor asks, 'Did you come here to die?' The tourist answers, 'Na, yesterday.' There is no one Australian accent. The accent in Perth and Adelaide is much more 'English'. People from Sydney make every sentence sound like a question, because they go 'up' at the end of the sentence. People from Brisbane squeak when they get excited. The late Steve Irwin (Crocodile man) did this all the time and there's a financial correspondent on BBC World News who also squeaks. Australians seem to like diminutives: 'cossie' for swimming costume and 'barbie' for barbecue. The vowel sounds tend to be 'narrower', but not as narrow as those in South 'Efrica'. When I lived in Sydney I was puzzled by a TV advert for a DOY store. At the close of the advert, the man said 'end we give omandymanints'. It took me a while to sort that out. The best was the second hand shop in Padding ton, Sydney. The name of the shop was 'Emma Chizzit'. I'm not sure about the cockney connection. Cockneys can't pronounce 'th', so the word brother ends up as 'bruver.'
What Options Are Open To The Public To Restore Our Media To Actually Inform The Citizens?
From Other - Politics & Government Forum:What options are open to the public to restore our media to actually inform the citizens? Wouldn't it help a great deal in political discourse if we had reliable journalism again or do most people watch the news for entertainment? Local news is always factual but national news leaves a lot to be desired. Is it because of 24/7 news channels having to fill in the time and keep up the ratings?
Answer: For any hope of an even marginally objective media in the future, you would have to excise the cancer of leftist indoctrination and the pervasive Marxist culture which have metastasized within our institutions of "higher learning". Tomorrows journalist and teachers are products of a system which no longer teaches students how to think, instead it teaches them what to think. Any thought expressed by a student that falls outside of what liberal doctrine defines as "politically correct" is met with disdain, ridicule, marginalization, and the threat of social and professional excommunication. Sadly this mindset and culture is carried with them into the workplace making any semblance of journalistic integrity impossible.
Do You Think Our Congress Both House And Senate Are Closer To Being Prostitutes Than An Average Citizen Is?
From Elections Forum:Do you think our congress both House and Senate are closer to being prostitutes than an average citizen is? I can see right through politicians especially with the 24/7 news coverage and unlimited Internet activity. I have discovered that only about 2 or 3 percent of all politicians actually are protecting our rights as citizens and care nothing about the constitution and only care about enriching themselves by enriching their friends all the way from the president down to the local mayor. Any disagreements on this question?
Answer: I like how you think. These people take money in bribes and from special interest groups. Most are more interested in writing books, giving speeches and generally lining their own pockets. They have no intention of doing what is best for the country or us.
Why Am I Supposed To Care When A Washed Up Celebrity Dies?
From Celebrities Forum:Why am I supposed to care when a washed up celebrity dies? There are big problems in this world right now but when a celebrity like Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston dies I've got to tolerate 24/7 news coverage of the event for the next month. People die every day. Am I supposed to care more when a celebrity dies?
Answer: No you are right to feel the way you want to feel. It's really sad that when these celebrities were in trouble they were like a public train wreck in dire need of help and it seemed like everyone would avoid them for fear of the bad reputation or to be included in with the drug use. Now that they have past everyone is there saying how badly they would be missed and it is 24/7 coverage. I have my TV off. I don't feel heartless, I feel bad for what has happened and for their families loss but there are important things in the world going on as you mentioned.
