How Much More Fuel Efficient Is A 777 Than A'S, A Burn Between OED And London For Example?
From Aircraft Forum:How much more fuel efficient is a 777 than A's, a burn between OED and London for example? If a 777 is much more efficient than an 747 and carries close to the same amount of people , why would the airlines continue to use the 747 . Does the 747 still have some advantages?
Answer: The A'S runs 80 miles per pass anger gallon. The 747 runs around 70. I can't find a reliable figure for the 777, figures range from 65-140. If they could beat 80 then there's no way the A'S or the 787 would have been ordered by anyone. Not great answer. potatochip: Maybe I'm taking your comment wrong, but losing 1 of 4 doesn't much affect the capability of the aircraft, BA are currently under scrutiny for continuing to HR after losing an engine a few minutes into the climb out of LAX. A 777 would have dumped tens of thousands of dollars worth of polluting fuel and to have returned to LAX. That contention on 4 engines being twice as likely to fail as 2 is specious. Probabilities multiply, but since they are less that 1 the result is less than either of the base probabilities. So if there was a 50% chance of one engine going wrong there will be a 25% chance of both going wrong, a 12.5% chance of 3 going wrong and a 6.25% chance of 4 going wrong. The real figures are vastly different of course. I may expect to see an in flight shutdown once in 40,000 hours, so I don't expect to see a double failure in 1,600,000,000 hours. But if I have four I wouldn't expect to lose all of them in 2.56x10^18 hours. Other than flying through a volcanic plume I have never heard of a 747 losing all four engines, and even in that case they got a couple restarted. I know of two twin engine twin failures, both in the mid eighties and the most famous being the Gilli Glider.
What Happens To A Boeing 777 In A Severe Thunderstorm?
From Aircraft Forum:What happens to a Boeing 777 in a severe thunderstorm? If a Boeing 777-300 is flying through a super cell, what will happen to the plane? Please give proper answers. does it get any lightning strikes or any crash??? do the pilots have a weather radar screen in the cockpit? I am going to do a long travel to a different country next month.
Answer: Thunderstorms are extremely dangerous for all aircraft. A Boeing 777, or any other airplane, can be destroyed by the extremely violent winds inside many thunderstorms, particularly super cells. While there's always a chance that an airplane might survive a flight through a thunderstorm, usually it is regarded as suicidal, and no sane, competent pilot ever flies through a thunderstorm ... ever. Air France Flight 447 was most likely destroyed by a thunderstorm as it flew through it, and many other aircraft have been destroyed in the same way. It's not clear why the Air France flight went through the thunderstorm, but it never came back out. Airliners are hit by lightning from time to time, but it usually doesn't do any significant damage. Lightning is not the danger in a thunderstorm. It's the violent winds, the icing, and sometimes the hail that endanger the aircraft—mostly it's wind. The airplane might encounter a 100-mph updraft immediately followed by a 100-mph downdraft, and the stresses imposed by these winds can be enough to break any aircraft into pieces. Many airliners now have weather radar in the cockpit. ACT also has access to weather data, and so do airline dispatchers. So it's generally possible to spot thunderstorms from far away. Airplanes always fly around thunderstorms. If there are so many storms in an area that the airplane can't fly around them, it must divert to a different airport and land. Thanks to weather radar and other modern technologies, airliners are no longer surprised by thunderstorms, and so crashes due to thunderstorms are now almost unheard of.
What Happened To The 777 Flight With Continental Airlines?
From Aircraft Forum:What happened to the 777 flight with continental airlines? I remember when I always went to Paris, I took the 777 flight with continental airlines. But now when I go, they have an older plane that was made sometime in the S's that I remember taking to Paris a LONG time ago. What happened to the 777? Does it still fly to Paris?
Answer: There is no Continental #777 right now. Here is a current list of Continental's flights to Paris: CO56 EWE - CD B767-400ER CO54 EWE - CD B757-200 CO32 IA - CD B767-400ER Hope it helps
Is There A Plan To Install The New Gens Engine On The B-777?
From Aircraft Forum:Is there a plan to install the new GENS engine on the B-777? This engine is suppose to be very fuel efficient. If they can put that on the B-777 now. That will help reduce fuel consumption on long haul flight. The 787 which the engine was intended for will not be deliver for a few more years.
Answer: The Gens is only certified for 75k- K lbs of thrust, while the GE-90 on the 777 produces about K, so for the Gens to be able to power the 777, GE would have to scale up the engines and I don't think threes any plan for that yet. Boeing however are looking at plans to reduce weight on the 777 to make it more efficient and GE might also do some minor tweaks on the GE-90, but scaling up the Gens to power the 777 would be too expensive and I don't think it would make economic sense for GE.
How Much Bigger Is The Boeing 747 Than The Boeing 777?
From Aircraft Forum:How much bigger is the Boeing 747 than the Boeing 777? I was looking at the dimensions and the Boeing 777-300 has the same wingspan, and is longer. but I was spotting planes the other day and I recorded some videos and I always look at pics on the Internet and the 747-400 always looks bigger. does it have a much wider and taller cabin? can someone explain to me?
Answer: The S's beats the corresponding S's only in wingspan. Length, height and widths, the S's score. So naturally the 747 should look bigger unless you compare a 777-300ER with a 747-200. The 747's distinctive hump, its four engines and the bigger fuselage always makes us prejudiced and rightfully so in many cases. Span cannot add to the illusion of size unless viewed from above which is very uncommon. Have no worries, when the 747-8I debuts status-quo will be maintained. As for your original question, it would require detailed comparison with each models. You can check out the company website for dimensions data.
Which Seats Have The Largest Foot Space On United 777 Aircraft?
From Aircraft Forum:Which seats have the largest foot space on United 777 aircraft? I'd like to know if anyone knows which seats (i.e. window, aisle next to the window, aisle in the middle, middle, etc.) on United 777 air crafts have the largest foot space. It seems some seats have the entertainment boxes under them, making the space smaller. Are there any seats without the entertainment boxes under them? Please do not answer "bulkhead" as I want to be able to store something in the foot space. Thanks! To be more specific, I want to know about the space under the seat in front (not the space between the seat one is sitting in and the seat on front).
Answer: I don't know right off the bat but you can find out here... http://seatguru.com/airlines/United_Airlines/United_Airlines_Boeing_777-200_D.php I hope this helps. In my opinion this website has the best info I know of.

How Much Do Boeing 777 Delta Captain Pilots Make?
From Aircraft Forum:How much do Boeing 777 delta captain pilots make? I wanna be a captain pilot for a Boeing 777, but I wanna know the salary of how much captain pilots make for flying a Boeing 777 delta airlines.
Answer: How amazing that all future pilots will all be Delta 777 captains - How come they never get to be 737 first officer first...? Then transition to 767 as first officer - And maybe a few years later upgrade as 737 captain...? What is even more amazing, is that they get top salary immediately too - In my days, took 25 to 30 years of seniority with the company to get that pay... .
Why Is The Boeing 777-300Er Abbreviated To 77W?
From Aircraft Forum:Why is the Boeing 777-300ER abbreviated to 77W? The 777-200LR is abbreviated to L, which makes sense, how does "W" denote 300ER?
Answer: stands for higher gross weight. the -300version of the 777 is the higher gross weight version so W most airlines use these kinds of mixed abbreviations in their timetables. like MW, L,763,767, DH, 343 etc. so you know the aircraft type and the version of it.
