Answer: Well you still need good grades if that's what your asking but a good interview and standardized testing like the L... something at Cambridge (which is probably where the article that your referring to is talking about) does also helps determine whether they want to admit you. What Are My Chances Of Getting To Oxford?
From Higher Education (University +) Forum:What are my chances of getting to Oxford? I've read plenty of 'guides' and 'criteria' but am still struggling to evaluate my chances. I want to apply for POL for Psychology and Linguistics. I am taking A-levels Maths, Biology, Economics, Business, Russian and Italian. My predicted grades are B, A*, A*, A*, A*, A* respectively. I am as well doing an EPA on Second language acquisition and an EPA on importance of language and tone used for telemarketing. I haven't done Gases, but have an equivalent qualification and have 12/12 in English, Russian, Literature, History, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Business and Art; 11/12 in German, Law, Astronomy and Physics and 10/12 in Ukrainian, Philosophy, Maths and Chemistry. (12/12, 11/12 and 10/12 are all counted as 'excellent'). My Personal Statement is a bit weak, because I am as well applying for Psy+Economics and Psy+Business.. so the focus is not only on linguistics. I have lots of extra-activities and in my PS have linked them to my will to study Psychology. Do I have any chance? I would much appreciate any comments.. Thank you!
Answer: Your A Levels are pretty amazing! (besides the maths unfortunately). However, grades is only one thing, you need to interview well! Somebody who received 10 A's at A Level was rejected from Oxford because her interview did not go well: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1207842/A-Level-results-2009-Pupil-TEN-A-grades-denied-entry-Oxford-maths-whizz-15-gets-place-Cambridge.html Good luck! :)
