The strongest argument I have heard against gay marriage is that it goes against the dictionary definition of marriage. However, the definition of marriage has changed throughout all of history and varied among cultures far into pre-history. Thus, my question is, why would it be wrong for the definition of marriage to stop where it's at today? Why can it no longer be adapted?
Answer: I have never heard that argument. The primary one that I have ever heard is that it is in the bible that marriage is between a man and a woman, not the dictionary. That's for the religious people but our country is not based on religion. The basis for being in favor of gay marriage is that you cannot let some of the population have civil rights and deny them to other people. It's not a religious issue, it's a civil rights issue. Gays are the new millennium blacks. We tried denying black civil rights when we tried prevent them from voting, deny blacks from marrying white, or sitting in the front of the bus.
