Does H Samuel keep a copy of insurance certificates? I have recently taken a chain into H Samuel too have it repaired, since leaving the store I have somehow lost the insurance certificate for the item. Does anyone know if I can get a copy or if the store keeps a copy etc?

I was just wondering would H Samuel's the jewellers be able to remove some links so that the bracelet is fixed?? Also how much would this cost roughly from there?? Answer: I had a gold bracelet and it was to big for me so I went back in the shop a few months later and asked for a few links to be taken off, which they done for free because the bracelet didn't need to be sent away, the jewelers do it there. Hope I helped =]

Before you go I would weigh the ring and take a couple of photos of the ring for your own records. A small charge might be made for the valuation but it should be a nominal figure and not the $50 that I have seen quoted already. I would suggest that $5 or £5 might be more reasonable. An alternative option might be to take it to a local antique auction house. Tell them that you have just inherited it and might be interested in putting it in the auction but am not sure what it might be worth and ask if the y give valuations in these circumstances. You will probably find they will give you a figure there and then without any charge. Then tell them you will need to discuss that with your brother or sister, whichever you feel comfy with. Remember that an auction price is not the same as an insurance valuation. The latter will be higher as that is the cost to you of buying a replacement at retail price.
