Answer: The BS is coming in effect in February.... so all the credit card companies are scrambling to increase their rates one more time before it gets "complicated" for them to do so. There is nothing you can do to stop it. Don't close the account. All that will do is remove the available line of credit from your credit report and your score will drop because you have less available credit. Instead: Stop using the Card.... make an honest effort to pay down the balance faster (that means at least twice the minimum payment due). Once the account is at Zero balance: Use it for $20 a month and pay off in full when the bill comes. This will cost you Zero in interest charges, really teach the credit card company a lesson and when they offer to increase your limit: Point their noses to the fact that you do this $20 a month charge because their interest rates are too high to let a balance revolve to the next billing cycle. Only if we, the consumer, get smarter and don't play the game.... will the credit card companies realize that at 29.99% APR nobody is carrying a balance. BECAUSE WE ARE TOO SMART for them. Join the "Smart Club" and pay off the credit cards now. Then we have a weapon against them. It is called paying the bill in full every month. They call this kind of customer a "deadbeat"... wonder why...
