What Does It Feel Like To Support A President Who The Main Stream Media Is Supporting?

From Politics Forum:

What does it feel like to support a president who the main stream media is supporting? As someone who doesn't like to be told how to think, I would think ABM supporters would be somewhat embarrassed by the national main stream media (abc, NBC, CBS, NPR, l.a.times, NY times, pop culture, etc) bias for your guy. So much for being an independent thinker, eh ABM voters?

Answer: I've noticed that. The Liberals are in lock-step think to what the media tells them. When ABM speaks, they sigh and tell the rest of us how wonderful he is. When we don't go along with Obama's lies and spin, *we're* the ones who are told to think for ourselves, not what Fox News tells us. I don't watch Fox News. And I'm not enamored with Rush Limbaugh's genital area as Liberals seem obsessed with pointing them out as if they have anything to do with any discussion. The Liberal media is Obama's lapdog and they will publish anything funny the President does, but they won't tell the general public or analyze any of the really bad things ABM has done and is doing, like these days, his wimpy foreign policy decisions meant to appease and show his own weakness and make nice with the Muslim hordes.

Where Can I Find Listings For Local High School Theater Productions?

From Theater & Acting Forum:

Where can I find listings for local high school theater productions? I live in Laos Angel es and unfortunately the L.A. Times does not list high school productions. I would love to see a local production of "A Christmas Carol". Is there a website that gathers production info for high schools?

Answer: This isn't a listing if high school productions. You might have to contact the high schools individually unfortunately as it is not as common for high schools to list their productions in the paper. But this website lists a lot of the Christmas productions going on in LA and perhaps what you are seeking is on there. http://golosangeles.about.com/od/losangelescalendar/a/ChristmasPlays.htm Merry Christmas!

How Do I Get A Photo shop Ad Ready For Print In A Newspaper?

From Programming & Design Forum:

How do I get a photo shop ad ready for print in a newspaper? I just bought photo shop, and I want to use it to put together my own brochures, ads, flayers for my products. Every week I need to send proofs of my ads to the Newspaper (O.C. Register, L.A. Times) The problem is...I don't know where to start! I took Photo shop class years ago in school, so I'm really rusty. Can anyone recommend what my first steps should be? How do I ensure my ads will be the right size?

Answer: Each publication will have their own custom specs (technical specifications) for how each item should be set up... dimensions, resolution, contrast levels, etc. Also, some things will depend on if you are designing in color or black and white, and what kind of press technology they are using. So truthfully, your best bet is to get the specifications from the publishers themselves. Frequently they'll provide this information on their websites. For example, the L.A. Times has a Media Kit site. You click on the Ad Rates tab and then there are links to specs for print or on line items. http://webapp1.latimes.com/mediakit/index.html Oh, and as far as proofs go, many companies prefer PD format.

Did You See That Cat Tyro id Disease Has Been Linked To Household Chemicals?

From Cats Forum:

Did you see that cat tyro id disease has been linked to household chemicals? Our cat suffered from thyroid disease a few years ago. How very sad to think we may have been able to help prevent it. The article I saw was in Thursday's L.A. Times.

Answer: I found the article - the chemicals are primarily found in flame retardants used in things such as sofa cushions, electronics and carpet padding. Cats kept indoors all the time and cats eating fish-based canned cat foods were at highest risk (because these chemicals are often found in such foods as well). The risk was highest in California because these flame retardants were mandated here in the 1980's. All that said, I had a cat with hyperthyroidism that died at age 19 last year. I live in California. She did not develop it until she was about 15. She never ate fish-based food (didn't like it) and was outside probably 80% of the time (outside much of the day but would come inside to visit and slept in the garage at night because she didn't like to sleep in the house with the dogs and she would often waken us at 3 am to go out.). So she would be considered a low risk cat and she still got it. As I said, it is a very common disease. They are concerned about the link to humans and other animals. During this same time period, I've had two dogs with hypothyroidism - the opposite. My thyroid has been tested several times related to a health problem and it is always either normal or a little low. So it's hard to draw conclusions. My friend's cat also got it as an old cat who was an inside-outside cat. She lived to 17. It was one small study - only 23 cats, so not conclusive yet. California is banning these chemicals and the federal government has already banned two of them since 2004. I agree there are way too many chemicals in the environment but I wouldn't assume your cat got it because of these chemicals. Possible but you'll never know for sure. She may have gotten it anyway.

How Do Failed Sub Prime Mortgages And Increases Of The Supply Of Homes Decrease The Price Of Apartment Rents?

From Renting & Real Estate Forum:

How do failed sub prime mortgages and increases of the supply of homes decrease the price of apartment rents? I was reading an article in the business section of the L.A. Times today discussing the result of sub primes mortgages after the housing boom. It mentioned that resulting home foreclosures would "slow the rise in rents". I'm wondering, in an economic sense, how this is possible.

Answer: The article seems to have it wrong according to my understanding of how such things works. Generally when people cannot afford to buy houses, they rent. Since interest rates and a tightening of credit have increased the cost of owning a house, rents should have an upward pressure on the price point (intersection of supply and demand curve) as the demand for rental units goes up faster then the supply. Very basic economics, in terms of "substitution of goods". One must have shelter, so instead of being homeless and not buying this good, one will opt for less expensive goods/services if faced with increasing costs. Note that a free and efficient market will adjust over time. The initial demand for rental spaces goes up, so there is more profit in building new apartment spaces, or for that matter buying foreclosures and putting them up for rent. This obviously increases the supply, putting some downward pressure on rent prices over time. Notice that I said downward pressure, not falling prices. This would tend to keep prices from rising as much as they should. New apartment complexes and making houses ready for rent take a while to build/prepare though, so the rents will go up in the short term. The article may be alluding to the fact that some of the foreclosures will undoubtedly become rental properties, but I think this slight addition to the supply will be more than balanced out by increased demand, forcing prices generally up.
