How Do I Find The Dates A Sears Sewing Machine And Cabinet Were Produced?

What Are The Chances That Sears Will Go Out Of Business?

From Corporations Forum:

What are the chances that Sears will go out of business? There's rumors that Sears may file for bankruptcy this year and go out of business. But since Sears has 400,000 employees nation wide, do you think the government would actually let that happen? And yes, I know other retail chains have recently gone out of business. But they're all relatively small compared to the number of employees Sears has. Circuit City by comparison has only 30,000 employees. So do you think Sears could actually go out of business or will the government step in and try to prevent that from happening?

Answer: Sears has a few different organizations under it (such as K-Mart) that might be broken up and sold to other companies instead of completely going bankrupt. That said, the outlook for Sears (steep drops in sales) and K-Mart (struggling greatly compared to competitors) are both very bad right now so it may very well file for bankruptcy in 2009. Unless the government decides to change course, I don't see them bailing Sears out. The rational for the bank bailout was a complete national economic collapse and money crisis, and the auto-bailout was to protect all of the American car industry from going under. Although it would be very bad, the collapse of Sears would not affect the U.S. in the same way as that, and a bailout for them would also open the floodgates to have to bail out the other retailers that are struggling (which is almost all of them right now). Just my guess is that 50/50 chance Sears/K-Mart is completely gone by the end of '09 and there will be no bailout for them.

How Is Lost Baby In Sears Commercial Not Insensitive?

From Fashion & Accessories Forum:

How is lost baby in Sears commercial not insensitive? Adam Walsh was abducted from a Sears department store before he was brutally murdered by decapitation. Did no one do their homework before approving this commercial? It is in poor taste and is shameful.

Answer: It is insensitive and stupid. Odd thing, I just emailed Sears Customer service this morning and complained about their selective memories and how NOT cute the commercial was. For heaven's sake, the little boy even looks like Adam. Putting aside the memories of Adam -- a parent's worse nightmare is losing a child anywhere. Was this commercial put together by a bunch of teenagers? STUPID STUPID STUPID Sears -- you're not going to get one cent out of me this Christmas season.

From Other - Careers & Employment Forum:

What are the duties of a Sears Merchandising and Pricing Associate? I have an interview tomorrow for the Merchandising and Pricing Associate position. I was wanting to know what the daily duties for this position consist of. For those that have done this type of work with Sears, or any other company, is it a difficult job? I've worked in retail as a cashier and a sales associate, but this will be my first time going for a position not related specifically to customer service. Thanks for the answers.

Answer: I'm not sure about Sears specifically, but that title is usually a different name for st ocker. Stocking shelves, receiving merchandise shipments, and assuring the goods are ticketed correctly before going onto the sales floor.

How To Get Customers To Apply For Sears Card?

From Marketing & Sales Forum:

How to get customers to apply for sears card? Today was my first day as a cashiers at Sears. I was told to try and get people to sign up for the Sears card but how do I do that successfully? I ask people if they want to use their sears card, they say no, I ask them if they have a sears card they say no, I ask them if they would like to apply for one and receive $15 off their purchase, everyone says no. However, the person training me has had 142 applications opened! What is the right way to word it so people will sign up, and does body language and confidence have anything to do with it? Also, how do I know when to back off and not seem too pushy? PLEASE any help, suggestions, and techniques would be appreciated!

Answer: The answer to this question lies not only with you but also with Sears. It seems like receiving $15 off a purchase is not enough incentive for them to get the card. At our store, at least they give us good incentives for customers to get our card such as a percentage off their purchase, hassle free returns, easy payments in the store, special days when they get percentages off their purchase when they use the card, coupons in the mail exclusively for the cardholders, if they get a joint store card like a Visa/Mastercard/Discover store card, they can earn 1% from each purchase and that will apply to store money, and opportunities to earn 'store money' when they use the card in the store. Sears should have their own list of customer incentives for them to actually WANT to get this card. You should research and and ask your supervisor what benefits of the Sears card is. I think the only person who will want a Sears card is a person who shops a LOT at Sears and consistently. As for yourself, you should just consistently ask customers if they're interested in applying for a Sears card, especially if they're making large purchases and are not using the card. A technique that we use in our store is to walk around the store, talking to customers about special sales in our store and asking if they have our store credit card and if they don't have it, mention the benefits of the card for them if they shop at our store often. They say that it is best to inform the customer of the store credit card BEFORE they reach the register because once they get to the register, a lot of the customers just want to LEAVE and don't want to take the time to apply for the card. BUT I have had customers ask me at the register how long the process will take and when I say only about Min (which is true), they seem okay with it. You had questions about techniques in reading body language? Well, usually when a customer is not actively answering you when you talk about the benefits of the card and looks like they're uninterested or just in a bad mood, I would back off. Usually you can tell right away when a customer is totally not interested and if they are, just back off because you may make the customer not want to come back to the store. So you say your trainer made 142 applications? Within what time frame? The average amount of credits opened in our store is maybe 2-3 in a day if a person is lucky. It's not easy getting a person to open a credit and usually the workers who open the most credits are the ones who are the most persistent and pushy when it comes to convincing customers, even the ones who seem totally uninterested. The workers who are pushy don't seem to care if they're putting customers off with their aggressive selling of the credit card. I personally don't like being pushy about it because I want the customers to feel comfortable in the store and not bombarded with things that they SHOULD get. Good luck!

How Much Would Sears Pay Based On Experience?

From Small Business Forum:

How much would sears pay based on experience? I've worked in the restaurant business for 8 years and I thought about applying at sears for part time, how much do they pay? Will they consider my experience with costumer service and cashier to pay me a bit more then they would start? Should I go full time ? They say they pay about 7.25? plus comission?

Answer: It really depends on what type of job you are applying for at Sears. It sounds like you are applying for a commissioned sales job? The pay scale is different between electronics, brand central (appliances), and home improvement. Most Sears stores will start their commissioned salespeople out at a base salary of $6.50 plus commission. Of course, it is the discretion of the store manager on what he/she thinks you should be paid. There is an "official" pay scale on how much they can offer you, and how little they can offer you. Now, on to commission. In electronics, you will not be making very much commission. It depends on what brand you are selling. Some of the "cheaper" models will be about 1% commission, then Sam sung and Sony's will be about 3-4% commission. Then, you can make good if you sell PA's, or "purchase agreements." It is true that you will get a chunk of that. So, it is not unreasonable to think that you may make up to $300 off selling a $2,000 TV. If you want to work in Brand Central (appliances), this is where the real money is to be made. However, there is a catch. You will typically make 7-10% commission on EVERYTHING you sell in appliances, but you do not get paid a base hourly wage. If you had a bad two weeks, Sears will pay you $6.50 an hour for the time you worked if you made NO sales, but the first couple of sales you make, they will take the base salary they paid you out of your next paycheck. So, it is a slippery slope. Home Improvement is set up the same way electronics is, but both equally have their fast times. Home improvement is hot this time of the year because of lawn tractors. Christmas is a hot time for electronics. If you are looking for steady income, head for electronics or home improvement. If you are an avid salesman and ready to make some money, they hit appliances. Otherwise, come to work for me and have the best job at Sears!

Answer: Signing people up for credit cards, etc. is an art... First off... Do NOT ask them whether they would like a card... 99% of people will immediately say NO. You would say "NO" yourself because you been hounded by countless cashiers asking this question. You need to offer them a "bait" that is appealing and you only have a few seconds to get their attention: So what is appealing about this credit card offer?.... Answer: The $15 off their immediate purchase. When the moment comes you ask whether they would like to pay $15 less than what the screen says... and then you can into the Sears Credit Card spiel. Example: Ma'am your total comes to $85.99... I can turn this into $70.99 immediately when you sign up for the Sears Credit Card. Not only does it save you an immediate $15 you also enjoy a great interest rate and ...... (add here whatever else this card offers)... (start doing your homework about the credit card). How Many Moles Of The Sears Tower Will It Take To Get To Uranus?

From Engineering Forum:

How many moles of the Sears Tower will it take to get to Uranus? Sears Tower Height= 1707 ft. tall Uranus' distance from Earth= 2.57 x A km away from the Earth (2.57 multiplied by 10 to the 9th) Conversion factors and all included also.........Please and thank you so much!

Answer: Well now, let me see. One Sears tower at 1707 ft /3,28 = 520.4 m or 0.5204 km. A mole of them is 0.5204 X 6.02 x 10^23 = 3.133 X10^23 km/mole 25.7 x10^8 km / 3.133 x 10^23 km per mole = 8.2 x 10^-15 mole (or 0.000000000000008 ) That will be close to 8 quadrillions of a Sears Tower Mole.

How Often Does Sears Restock Their Inventory?

From Small Business Forum:

How often does Sears restock their inventory? I want to redeem my sears gift card and buy a PlayStation 2 with my gift card, but it is currently not available at Sears at the moment. Supposedly it's just temporary. Does anyone who work for Sears or know about Sears store restocks their inventory for PlayStation 2's? Please advise if you know and thanks. Does anyone who work for Sears or know about Sears store know how often they restock their inventory for PlayStation 2's? Please advise if you know and thanks.

Answer: My guess is that they have a system that when an item is purchased another one is ordered. When there is enough for a full case, the case is sent to the store. I've worked for a few retailers, and they both did it that way. If the PPS is out of stock for awhile, Sears might be having problems getting it from their supplier. Also, the system has glitches sometimes. If there is theft, the system doesn't know to reorder it. You can purchase it on line and use your gift card. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?pid=05894040000&vertical=Sears&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes
