Having just recently attended a Physics conference and spoken to people who have actually worked at CE RN (the facility that runs the LHC) and with an uncle who works at the Fermi National Accelerator Lab, I can tell you with certainty that the possibility of them ever creating enough anti-matter to react with the force of any kind of bomb is impossible. They are lucky to capture a few atoms of anti-matter, and in all the years they have been running Fermi hasn't made enough anti-matter to even be visible to the naked eye if you put it all together. The 2012 bull is just as preposterous, since the Mayans never considered the end of their long-count calendar to signal the end of the world, just a time of great change. You really shouldn't believe anything that Hollywood comes up with without doing your own research, since they take harmless ideas and turn them into action-packed, violent films. You might be interested to look up the shear number of times people have predicted the end of the world, just to put a proper scale on the recent hype.

2012 - End of the world? With the upcoming movie 2012 that foretells the end of the world based on the Mayan belief that the world will come to the end on DEC rest 2012, I have become interested in this topic. What do you think about this? Did the Mayans really believe this? I have never heard of this before, and I have no knowledge of the Mayan culture. Thanks a lot! Answer: The reason some believe the Mayans foretold the end of the world in 2012 is because the Mayan calendar is a complex ma thematic calendar that has some scientific knowledge to create it (knowledge that nobody else had at the time but we understand now). The myth behind this date is because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21 2012 (12-21-12) and some believe that the Mayans had some very high knowledge (some even say higher than some of our math knowledge) and could, with mathematical formulas predict astrological events, and their calendar ends on that particular date, making the believers think that it stops because its the end of the world. There are some other cultural facts to support this theory like in the bible or something like that I don't quite remember. But there are 2 or 3 other cultural "evidences", in other cultures not related with the Mayans and written by people that could not possibly have knowledge of the Mayan calendar. Those evidences also point the year 2012. There's another theory saying it will be a day will mark a new age where human have a much higher spiritual state. So either very negative or positive. We'll soon find out! o.O
