Answer: In the entry-level consumer camcorder area, the Canon ZR (miniDV tape) and Canon F'S series (flash memory) camcorders have a 1/8" (3.5mm) mic jack for audio-in. They don't have manual audio control - but you may not need that. There are ways to add manual audio control - but that means buying more stuff... If you want a mic jack and manual audio control in the camcorder, there are some Sony camcorders with Microfilmed and Canon camcorders with Mic Attenuation on/off selections in the menu to deal with loud audio. They might not have a mic jack, though. The least expensive camcorder that I know of with a mic jack and a 12-14 step manual audio control capability is the Canon H'S. In any case if you THINK you found the camcorder you want, don't buy it - go to the manufacturer's web site, download and read through the manual an be sure it has the features you want - if yes, then buy it. If no, the features won't magically appear because you want them - so move on to another camcorder.
