Is It Possible To Have A Pulmonary Embolism At 17?

From Respiratory Diseases Forum:

Is it possible to have a pulmonary embolism at 17? I'm 17 and I'm on the pill. I have been for almost 2 years now. Lately I've been really short of breath, as if I have to remind myself to breathe, my left leg goes numb occasionally, my right kidney is sore and feels swollen, and my heart beat speeds up every once in a while. I looked this up on Web MD Symptom Checker & it said pulmonary embolism. Could it be possible at 17 years old?

Answer: It is possible but unlikely. I would go to a doctor if I were you though.

I tried the webbed symptom checker, and it listed about 20 possible things that could be wrong with her, but I don't think she has any of them because she only had one or two symptoms for each sickness. Is A Runny Nose Really A Symptom Of Cancer?

From Cancer Forum:

Is a runny nose really a symptom of cancer? My mom has had one since August and she's never had allergies before. I was looking on sites like webbed, symptom checker, rightsizes, etc. and they all said it could be something serious. One of them even suggested cancer...Thanks.

Answer: There are hundreds of things that have sinuses stuffed and a runny nose to go with it, and its so common, you can't make any conclusions without considering other things that are wrong also. It is winter and cold in many places, and just exposure to cold weather can cause it. Even from crying or just watching a sad movie a person can get a runny nose for a little while. Usually it's a minor virus from a common cold and although annoying will go away over a week's time.People can get one from an allergy exposure that they never knew they had, or there just happens to be a worse case than normal of something she's allergic to. Overall, you don't worry about it unless it lasts more than a week.

But I was wondering if there's any website out there, where you type in all your symptoms. And it will tell you what type of sickness/disease/disorder you may have?

Answer: Yes, I use them all the time. There is the Mayo Clinic, symptom checker, Webbed symptom checker, eh ow symptom checker and several others. Just type in symptom checker or medical symptom checker in the search bar (I use yahoo search) and hit search. A lot will pop up so choose from them. Constantly Congested Since Moving. Is It Allergies That Could Be Causing My Problems?

From Allergies Forum:

Constantly congested since moving. Is it allergies that could be causing my problems? I moved from Laos Angel es to Eugene Oregon for school and in the year I have been there I have constantly been sick. I feel like I am always congested and always need to "huck" or ca ugh up phlegm. This seems to leave to my whole body feeling sick and I often have soar throats. Could allergies be causing this many problems for me? And if so what should I do about it?

Answer: It certainly could be allergies. Could be just sinus congestion. Here are some things to try to alleviate the symptoms. Obviously you want to relieve the nasal congestion. Best ways are relatively simple.1) Try placing a warm, damp washcloth over the area of primary congestion. Forehead and/or over the bridge of your nose and over your cheeks, or eyes. You have sinuses in each area. 2) Vapor bath- you can buy it in almost any store usually located with baby supplies. You can either take a nice hot bath with 2-4 Oz's. of the vapor bath in it or do it on the stove top. There you place a pan (2 quart or larger with 2 Oz's. or so of vapor bath) with water and heat. Remove from heat, turn off stove. Take a towel and drape it over your head and the pan creating a tent. Breathe in through your nose and out your mouth. 3) During the day use Stuffed (decongestant) every 4 hours. Use saline spray to keep the membranes moist. The good thing about saline is you can use it as much as needed. 4) At night switch to an antihistamine (I like Benadryl- an oldie but goody). It will dry you up and stop the post nasal drip which is most likely causing your sore throat. Keep the saline spray by your bedside (along with a bottle of water) in case the antihistamine dries you out too much and causes mouth breathing. One of the main side effects of Tendril and most antihistamines is drowsiness so you use it at night to actually help you sleep. For SHORT TERM RELIEF NOT TO BE USED FOR MORE THAN 3 DAYS CONSECUTIVELY - try a nasal spray decongestant like Afr in. See the Web MD symptom Checker link below to confirm the cause of your problems. Be advised that it gives many possibilities so do not be alarmed. You should notice improvement in 3-5 days. If not or if the symptoms persist get an appointment with an (Ear, Nose, Throat specialist) as they will check you for nasal polyps or any other anatomical problems contributing to your symptoms. If warranted you will be referred to an allergist. I have had 3 sinus operations in the past 30+ years and suffer with chronic, bilateral, maxillary sinusitis. Some folks just don't appreciate the simple things in life.. like being able to breathe through your nose. Best of luck to you.

How Come My Left Hand Doesn'T Seem To Have Any Grip When I Make A Fist Or Hold Onto Anything?

From Pain & Pain Management Forum:

How come my left hand doesn't seem to have any grip when I make a fist or hold onto anything? Is there a problem with my bone or is it just because I'm right handed? It's not like it's weaker..there is like no grip at all and it feels absolutely so weak!

Answer: If you haven't experienced any trauma in that area recently, it may be carpal tunnel syndrome. It can be caused by resting your wrist on something for long periods of time. I suggest having it checked out asap, it can be treated if you catch it early enough, and if you don't get it treated, its not fun at all. :( You might also want to use the Web MD symptom checker which can lead you to more information, or assist you in diagnosing the problem. Nobody knows the symptoms better than you. http://symptoms.webmd.com/symptomchecker

Is This Enough Cause For A Visit To The Doctor?

From Infectious Diseases Forum:

Is this enough cause for a visit to the doctor? I've had a cough for 5 days. At first it started as a dry cough. Then I started coughing up yellowy - green coloured phlegm/mucus. This is still continuing but I am also coughing up a 'clear' white coloured phlegm/mucus. I've been coughing so much my throat hurts slightly. I don't like going to the doctors but It's starting to annoy me.

Answer: Yes. It very much is. Also, before you go, go ogle webbed symptom checker. Enter in all your symptoms and check results. Mention a couple of the resulting illness recommendations to your doctor. I looked it up on webbed for you and found the following top 6: 1-bronchitis 2- Common cold 3- Chemical Pneumonia 4- Pneumonia 5- Viral pharyngitis 6- Viral pneumonia. Please do this yourself again because I didn't know all the answers to the little survey it did. Go to the doctor!!!! Feel better VERY soon!!!!!!!!!!!
