Why Doesn'T A Star Core Which Will Become A Black Hole Wait Until After Supernova To Form?

From Astronomy & Space Forum:

Why doesn't a star core which will become a black hole wait until after supernova to form? Why doesn't a neutron core continue collapsing in on itself without going supernova, taking the rest of the stars mass with it?

Answer: Stars greater than 1.4 times the mass of the Sun (called the Chandrasekhar limit after the Indian physicist who discovered it on his way to England) will tend to explode in a supernova casting off much of their mass. A small central core will remain and like smaller stars this will collapse only this time electron degeneracy will not be enough to support the star's mass against its gravitational collapse and it will continue to shrink until it becomes a tiny, but hugely massive, neutron star held together by neutron degeneracy. If neutron degeneracy is not enough to resist the star's collapse it will continue to shrink until the matter is all compressed into an infinitely small, infinitely dense point called a singularity. This is the center of a black hole The star previous to that of the neutron star already did undergo a supernova blast, casting away most of its excess volume, however heightening it's mass. Degradation commences, causing a relatively small black hole's premier to be inevitable. However, in a special case, a brown dwarf, or the most illusive stars in the galaxy, can appear as well.

Why Doesn'T Joe Wilson Take His Concerns To The Table And Help Strengthen The Bill?

From Other - News & Events Forum:

Why doesn't Joe Wilson take his concerns to the table and help strengthen the bill? Why tell people who can't do anything to change it what the problems are? Why doesn't Joe join people trying to bring affordable health care to hard working Americans? Why doesn't he sit at the table and make it happen instead of talking tough behind a mans back and mealy mouthed to his face. This isn't character in case it matters to anyone anymore. I can think of at least 3 ways to avoid illegal immigrants getting coverage from public monies and I am not a politician, not shaping the final bill.

Answer: You are so right. Its so easy to be negative about an issue and to call someone a liar without any substance. How can anyone protest , and that includes the 60,000 odd who attended the mass protest this weekend, without even reading the full details of this bill as they have not even been released by the White House yet.

Why Doesn'T Laos Angel es Install More Rail Systems For Public Transportation To Decrease Traffic?

From Commuting Forum:

Why doesn't Laos Angel es install more rail systems for public transportation to decrease traffic? Why doesn't Laos Angel es install more rails for public transportation to decrease traffic? More rails or even some high speed rail systems and therefore minimizing road traffic. Are there any new project proposals to decrease traffic?

Answer: LA used to have one of the best inter-city rail systems in the world - 60 years ago. After World War 2, when cars were cheap and service men and women were returning home with access to money, it was a logical buy. Unfortunately, there weren't that many highways. In the S's, the federal government started a program for the development of interstate highways (freeways). As more cars and trucks were built, more roads were built. All of this was endorsed by the oil companies which provided petroleum products for all parties concerned. The small rail and trolley lines were squeezed out. In LA's case, many of the trolleys were sold to Japan while the remainder were buried in abandoned tunnels. Only a couple escaped to museums. Ironically, LA wants to re-establish rail service, but underground, along many of the same routes that the trolleys followed. In earthquake country, it is a big and very expensive gamble. In the end, LA will not be able to grow any bigger than it already is because there is not enough infrastructure (transportation) to support the growth.
